The N.Y Giants defeated the N.Y.Yankees to win the World Series. And in Brooklyn, Max and Clara Fortunoff opened the doors of their neighborhood housewares store. Here was a store with a real difference and a vast selection of quality merchandise, attentive sales clerks, and remarkably low prices. These attributes, which have become hallmarks of the company, not only turned the store into a Brooklyn landmark, but soon led to eight Fortunoff shops, all located under the elevated subway on Livonia Avenue. In 1957, Fortunoff added fine jewelry and watches to their stores and since then has earned a legendary reputation as a jeweler of honesty, integrity, and value. 1964 Fortunoff followed its customers’ migration to the suburbs and set up shop in a sparkling new superstore in Westbury, Long Island. Since then, we have opened five more stores in suburban New Jersey, and "the jewel in our crown" on New York City’s prestigious Fifty Seventh Street. Our newest addition was the 2003 opening of our beautiful full-line superstore at The Source at White Plains. 2008 Today, Fortunoff provides customers with necessities and niceties: fine jewelry and watches, antique jewelry and silver, everything for the table, fine gifts, home furnishings including bedroom and bath, fireplace furnishings, housewares, and seasonal shops including our outdoor furniture shop in summer and our enchanting Christmas Store in the winter. In March 2008, NRDC Equity Partners acquired Fortunoff with the intent to expand the company's full-line stores to as many as 50 locations nationwide, while the company's 16 regional outdoor furniture stores could ultimately grow to include over 300 locales.
